History

Company founder Rainer May trusted in craftsmanship and innovative ideas in order to produce industrial knives of the highest precision. We are continuing this success story. What started with three employees in 1985 is now a company operating worldwide with over 30 master craftsmen, skilled workers and apprentices.

1985

Foundation of the Rainer May GmbH: The industrial master craftsman Rainer May and his wife Renate hire three employees.

1990

Construction of own production facilities at Neuwied. 
Transition from manual to CNC-supported grinding of the blade's serrations.

1996

Construction of a further manufacturing facility. The first waterjet cutting system is acquired. Now more than ten employees work at the Rainer May GmbH. TÜV Rheinland certifies its quality management to the ISO 9001 standard - a certificate that has been renewed each and every year since then.

2004

Transfer to a newly acquired manufacturing hall and administrative building with over 5,700 m2. Over 20 employees now work at the Rainer May GmbH.

2010

The entire company building is equipped with a photovoltaic system. Every year, over 70,000 kilowatt hours are fed into the power grid. 

2011

Our range of machinery expands with the first laser cutting machine.

2012

Expansion of the serration grinding department with the purchase of two new machines.

2014

Founder Rainer May passes the company’s leadership to his daughter Heike Stinner-May and son-in-law Stefan Stinner.

2016

To expand the product portfolio, a CNC shaft grinding machine is purchased.

2017

For reasons of sustainability, the entire hall lighting is replaced by the latest LED technology.

2019

Acquisition of two filter towers to improve the indoor climate.

2021

The core competence was expanded with a custom-developed 5-axis profile grinding machine for Rainer May GmbH

2024

Transition of water treatment from filter fleece to the latest centrifuge technology to minimize hazardous waste.

2023

The production equipment was expanded with a new laser technology that is more powerful and efficient.

Constant renewal and expansion of the machine park as well as investments in new technologies taking into account the environment and climate change.
